Lead Pastor

About the Role

The Lead Pastor serves as the shepherd of God’s flock at Markham Missionary Church (MMC). He is responsible for fostering a spiritual environment that helps our church family grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and share His love, hope, and truth.

According to MMC By-laws (Article II:1), the Lead Pastor is responsible to the Elders Council and is a member of it.

Qualifications

The Lead Pastor must be a man called by God to ministry, demonstrating a clear sense of vocation and commitment to spiritual leadership.

The candidate must reflect a solid foundation of theological knowledge. In addition, he should demonstrate--through prior work experience--leadership abilities that highlight his capacity to guide and influence others effectively.

The Lead Pastor is expected to fully align with the constitution of the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada (EMCC), as well as the MMC Constitution and By-laws, ministering within their guidelines.

Furthermore, he must receive approval from the Licensing and Ordination Committee of the EMCC, ensuring his qualifications and beliefs are consistent with the standards of the denomination.

Responsibilities

  • Preach and teach God’s Word with clarity and spiritual depth.
  • Plan worship services in coordination with worship leaders and committees.
  • Provide counselling and spiritual support as needed.
  • Oversee and participate in an effective visitation program to minister to the sick, shut-ins, and others as needs arise, including following up with newcomers to the church.
  • Demonstrate spiritual leadership through vision casting, strategic planning, and goal setting, including outreach to the community for Christ.
  • Exemplify leadership that engenders a culture of prayer and spiritual discipline.
  • Mentor ministry leaders and provide pastoral oversight for church ministries, with an initial focus on revitalizing Youth/Children’s Ministries and Small Group Discipleship.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of ministry staff.
  • Inspire transparency and communication among all ministries, staff, and congregation.
  • Perform additional duties as agreed upon in concert with the Elders Council.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the board and committees.
